Progress for My Lexel
(Lexel 3 months after his first surgical operation)
My son, Lexel, and I went back to PGH yesterday. He had an appointment with Plastic Surgery OPD. He was referred to Opthalmology and we got a schedule for July 12. He was also referred to Plastic Surgery consultants so we will be coming back tomorrow.
Progress!
From the OR tech that we got from Cebu Doctor's Hospital, it was indicated that he got face cleft.
I was touched by the change in my son's attitude when he saw some kids with cases similar to his. He might have some realizations that he's luckier. Progress! We saw a 5-year old kid with worse face cleft. Both sides of her face are affected by the cleft and her mother told us that she couldn't send her to school yet because she's afraid that people would ridicule her daughter. (Lexel is now a high school sophomore). The mother told me that her daugther needs 4 surgical operations. (Lexel @ 10)
She already had one. And she needs to apply eye ointment every now and then because her daughter's eye is drying and she said that even if the face defect is corrected, they need to apply the ointment lifetime. (Lexel doesn't need an eye ointment.)
I hope there will be good news for his poor vision when we go back on July 12 for his ophtha check up....
I hope there will be good news tomorrow from the PGH Plastic Surgery consultants...
